Overview

The ELD Department is responsible for managing the International Cultural Exchange Program within Spokane Public Schools. The Director of ELD collaborates closely with CSIET representatives to approve and register cultural exchange students for fall enrollment. To ensure compliance with district guidelines, all CSIET representatives are required to attend an annual district training prior to submitting applications.

Student Screening Guidelines

Please check each guideline met:

Student will attend school for a full year and not for half of a year.

Student will attend school in the attendance area of the host family. To ensure the student is enrolled at the proper high school, enter the address of the host family into the Bus Route & Boundary Information search page. If the family has a high school child who has choiced into a high school outside their home boundaries, the exchange student can be enrolled in the same school.

Student will enroll at the FROC where registration, testing, services and other information for the school year will be provided.

Student will be 16 to 18 years of age on the first day of school in the fall of the registration year and have attended at least one year of upper secondary in the country from which they apply. Acceptable documents for registration include visa, passport, and/or official birth certificate.

Student will have junior or senior level status.

Attach proof of English language equivalency testing. The student must have an overall proficiency ELTiS 2.0 Scaled Score of 704 or higher. The Listening, Reading, Vocabulary, Grammar, Literal Comprehension, and Inferential Comprehension must be at Level 5. ELTiS 1.0 tests and any paper pencil tests will no longer be accepted. Score reports must include a photo of the student to ensure test security.

Attach an original upper secondary transcript as well as a notarized English translation. USA grade equivalencies must be primarily A’s and B’s.

Attach documentation of adequate immunization or exemption.

Attach completed Student Acceptance form.

Note: 10 students per high school may enroll each year, with no more than 2 students from the same country.

Applications can take up to 10 business days to process. A current application status list will be updated on the website on a regular basis. Student placement confirmation will be emailed to assistant principals on a regular or as-needed basis.
